March 08 – Need a better plan? Are you not making the progress you had hoped? With the first quarter of the year closing in, are you looking back on what you had hoped to accomplish with disappointment or frustration? Are there specific goals in which you had expected to have made more progress? Instead of being disappointed in yourself, evaluate how you can ramp up better progress toward these goals, if they are still important to you, by taking back control of where your time is best spent.
It is human nature to underestimate the timeline it will take to accomplish something and overestimate our ability in making the goal happen. Why? Because we never account for the many distractions and demands that impact us on a day-to-day basis, affecting our ability to focus on what we would really like to be doing.
Take an MM&I Moment to awaken to how distractions and other demands have impacted your ability and mentality to progress in the areas you want to see move forward faster. Are you allowing others to distract or impose upon you in meeting their goals, which forces you to put your goals on the backburner? Are you easily distracted by little emergencies or activities that crop up? Do you schedule specific time periods devoted toward action steps related to your goal on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis? Are you protecting that time allotted at all costs, with no exceptions? As difficult as it may be to acknowledge, we can blame others or circumstances for our inability to get ahead, or we can recognize our roles in it not happening and then charge forward, knowing that we do have more control than we realize in any given situation. The real key is in the choices you are making. Choose your priorities instead of allowing them to choose you.
