May 25 – Is your giving momentum-building? Last week I asked you to explore your reasons for giving to determine if they are in alignment with what matters and is most meaningful to you and your values. Notice how I said “to” you and not “for” you? And why is this important? Because while giving based on your values and what is important to you helps you know there is alignment, the true spirit of giving is always focused on who will ultimately benefit “beyond” you.
This week, I want to help you take your acts of giving or kindness to an even higher level of difference making related to your expectations. Is it wrong to have expectations when you give of your time, talent, or treasure? Absolutely not. The key is that it is not self-motivated for your own personal gain, but rather intrinsically motivated for the greater good it can facilitate, create, or escalate.
Take an MM&I Moment to awaken to how your giving can have an even greater impact. How is your giving helping others lift themselves up? How is your giving helping take what is being done to an even greater level of meaningfulness? How is your giving helping change things for the better? How is your giving providing resources, opportunities, or pathways? Once you align giving with meaning that is reinforced by the difference it is truly making, your giving has exponential power. When your giving inspires others to give, you have reached a tipping point that far exceeds what any one person could do alone.
