Sept 12, 2016 - Are you overlooking the obvious? Are you caught up in finding a solution that seems unreachable or unachievable at this time? Have you analyzed a particular situation from what you believe is every possible angle and are still stumped by what the best answer could be? Human nature automatically assumes that overcoming a challenge is going to be difficult, complex and time consuming. As a result we tend to focus on the challenge of the obstacle itself versus what could most easily help us overcome it.
Take an MM&I Moment to consider that there may be a simpler, much easier way to approach getting to the solution. Write down everything that you know about the situation. Write down all the confirmed facts about the situation. Write down anyone who is directly or indirectly involved or affected by the situation including why these individuals are impacted. Finally, write down the most ideal outcome you would like to see occur once the challenge is overcome. After these steps have been completed, look at your answers as a whole to see if anything jumps out that you may have not thought of as an option before. Chances are, you will see that you were making it much more complicated than it really needed to be.
