Jan 27, 2014 - Are others impeding your progress? Are you working toward a goal that requires the support and assistance of others to enable its achievement? Are you feeling frustrated by a lack of progress or competency from others, which you believe is impacting your ability to move forward effectively? Instead of viewing others as your obstacle, view yourself as your optimal source of inspiration and inclination for getting things done. This doesn't mean you do it alone. It simply means you don't allow the things that others are doing or not doing to cause you to view your situation bleakly. Are you truly exploring all your possible resources and support for getting your things done well? Are there others who may be more reliable or even more qualified to do what is not getting done to your satisfaction? Sometimes, it is merely a matter of taking your blinders off and seeing a more panoramic view of the possibilities and opportunities.
Take an MM&I Moment to honestly examine your situation. Have you effectively explained and equipped the person to know and achieve with the purpose, objectives and expected outcome of their effort? Or, could the reason why progress is not being made because there needs to be more clarity and definitive expectations shared? Should a portion of the effort be assigned to another person or resource to move it forward? Is the person assigned the best option for the job or did you believe they were the only option for the job? How you manage your success is as much about how you manage others as it is about how you manage yourself. Taking charge to keep things progressing is always up to you. If things have come to a halt, then it is up to you to re-energize the effort.
