April 23, 2012 – Are you taking too much responsibility for others? How are you allowing your sense of responsibility to empower you? Could it also be holding you back? Being accountable for your own actions is being responsible and will also earn the respect and support of others. However, if your sense of responsibility includes being held accountable for others’ actions without holding them accountable, then you are taking their power to perform away and a jeopardizing yours as well.
Take an MM&I Moment to note any areas in your work or business that are not progressing as you desire them to progress. Then note what has fallen through the cracks and why … who was responsible and how … what was expected and when. If any of this is unclear to you, then it may very well be unclear to the others involved as well. Gather your support team together and set clear expectations, responsibilities, standards of communication and support factors in working together. You may be surprised with how things begin moving satisfactorily forward once everyone is working more effectively together and holding each other accountable for what needs to be done.
